Iomega External Dvd Cd-rw Drive

By admin

I have multiple USB devices no longer recognized that were recognized before. Please help me figure this out!?

First off, I have a Dell Dimension 2200 with four USB ports in the rear and one in the front. For months, I was able to use the following external devices: An Acom 60GB hard drive; an Iomega 16x10x40 CD/RW, an I/OMagic 16x DVD rewritable, a Sandisk 1.0GB flash drive, and a High Speed USB 2.0 7-port hub. All of sudden none of them operate, with a message popping up saying "Device Not Recognized" or flat out saying there's a malfunction with the device. I have unsuccessfully tried the troubleshooter, gotten no help from Microsoft, attempted to find drivers for all of these, and nothing works. I have deleted the root hubs and the so-called unknown USB devices from my device manager, then restarted in the hope that my computer would be able to recognize all of them. No luck. I have checked multiple forums for advice, and it's gotten me nowhere. Has someone been in a similar situation and tried something that worked, or is anybody a USB expert who might be able to give some suggestions?

Unplug everything, turn the machine off, then turn it on with nothing connected. Then attach the items one at a time and see if they are recognized.
Are all of your items hooled up through your hub? If so is it a powered hub or a passive hub (passive $5, power $25 + it plugs into wall) if you are running all of that on a passive hub there may not be enough power to run everything so they stop. Try direct connecting them to your machine or getting a powered hub.
